WPC Notification : Amendments to Amateur Radio Rules & Regulations by WPC


Finally the official gazette concerning amateur radio operators has been published by Wireless Planning and Co-ordination department. Amateur Radio in India is governed by Telegraphy Rules and WPC works under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The key changes that have been made in the new rules are

1. Category of license

From earlier four categories, the new rules have merged Grade I and Advanced as General, while Grade II and Restricted have been clubbed together as  Restricted Grade.

2. Fees Structure

Instead of 5 year renewal cycle, amateur radio operators can now apply for 20 years or lifelong license. They would have to pay INR 1000 for 20 years or INR 2000 for life long application.

Haiti Earthquake Amateur Radio Update


From the CQ / WorldRadio Online Newsroom:

All radio amateurs are requested to keep 7045 kHz and 3720 kHz clear for possible emergency traffic related to today’s major earthquake in Haiti.

International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region II Area C Emergency Coordinator Arnie Coro, CO2KK, reports that as of 0245 UTC on January 13, nothing had been heard from radio amateurs in Haiti, but that the above frequencies were being kept active in case any Haitian hams manage to get on the air, and in case of other related events in surrounding areas, including aftershocks and a possible tsunami.

Lecture cum demo on Ham Radio at Shimoga


On behalf of the Students of Sahyadri Science college, Shimoga and the Participants of the "PATHWAYS" training and Placement Cell, VU2BCP - OM Patil and I thank the stations who helped out with the demo which went off very well.

The programme was well attended and about 35 students keenly paricipated in the lecture/presentatio n on the introduction to HAM radio and about 7 students went on the air for "Modulation Test".

This meet has been organized every year since it's inception in 2003.The date is fixed 2nd Saturday of February every year thus making it easier for everyone to schedule their activities and participate as and when possible!!!

Naveen launches HAM Radio

Orissa is taking good steps towards HAM Radio activity and in this series, here is a reprint of news published in a local daily.

Mr. Naveen Patnaik launched HAM Radio stations for disaster mitigation. OSDMA - Orissa State Disaster Management Authority is the state organization responsible for managing and maintaining the facility along with help from volunteers and trained personnel.
