- New Interim Chief Takes Over Air Force MARS
The Air Force Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS) organization has a new "interim" Chief. Outgoing USAF MARS Chief Allen Eiermann, K3LSR, retired at the end of May and was replaced by TSgt Jason E. Sandifer. Sandifer is a systems manager stationed at the Air Force Network Integration Center (AFNIC) at Scott AFB, Illinois. AFNIC is the headquarters of the national Air Force MARS organization.
- Colorado Hams Assisting Wildfire Relief Efforts
A fire that began on Monday, September 6 in Emerson Gulch located in Four Mile Canyon -- just northwest of Boulder, Colorado -- has members of Boulder County ARES providing communications support to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the American Red Cross. According to a 911 call, the fire was started when a vehicle collided with a large propane tank.
- HAMS quiz school students (India)
A Children's Magazine, HAM Radio, General Science, Traffic... Yes! A unique quiz that involved all of these - Quiz on Air. Hoopla Club, a monthly children's magazine, in association with Indian Institute of HAMs organised the second annual 'Quiz on Air' on Friday September 3rd, 2010 in Bangalore. After earlier preliminary rounds, ten Hoopla Club member school teams made it to the finals that was conducted and aired ‘live' on HAM Radio.

Communication in the first minutes of a life-threatening emergency is key to whether victims survive.Communication with the general public in the hours and days following any catastrophic event can determine if ordinary people can effectively come together to help themselves and to care for others.

Eleanor Knox doesn't know Morse code - and in the new age of amateur radio operators, really doesn't need to know the rhythmic "dits" and "dahs" that so long defined the ham system.Still, the Yuba City woman has found herself on the front lines of ham radio communication during a number of emergency events - the most recent being the 2008 wildfires in Butte County.
