Sydney, Australia - 2009 - 90 years of Amateur RadioSpecial event station VI2BV90 will be active from the 24th of January 2009 until 1st of February 2009 to celebrate 90th Anniversary of Waverley Amateur Radio Society. 

The club was founded in 1919 and is the oldest continually licensed amateur radio club in Australia as well as being the first to be licensed for TV transmission (1936) and to set up a web site, created by Ben, VK2XUF (1995). The club's 90th anniversary in January 2009 is being marked with a special event callsign VI2BV90.

Celebration Plans: A special event station for VI2BV90 with QSL card. The club expects to operate SSB on or near the following HF frequencies 3.590, 7.090, 14.190, 21.190 & 28.490MHz and CW on or near 7.019 & 14.019MHz with operations shown on the QRZ DX cluster. When possible, it is also planned to stream live TV via the USTREAM site whilst on air. Repeater contact via IRLP (Node 6250) and Echolink (Node 305559) will also be possible. Operating times will depend on availability of members, but it is hoped to list known operating hours here.

Space shuttle Atlantis lifted off from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, at 2:28 p.m. EST Monday, beginning STS-129, the 31st shuttle flight to the International Space Station.

Expedition 21 Commander Frank De Winne, ON1DWN and Flight Engineers Robert Thirsk, VA3CSA, Roman Romanenko, Nicole Stott, KE5GJN, Maxim Suraev and Jeffrey Williams, KD5TVQ, are making final preparations for Atlantis’s arrival, set for Wednesday.

The STS-129 mission will focus on storing spare hardware on the exterior of the station. The 11-day flight will include three spacewalks and the installation of two platforms to the station’s truss, or backbone. The platforms will hold spare parts to sustain station operations after the shuttles are retired. This equipment is large and can only be transported using the unique capability of the shuttle.
