Power Supply for ATS 1 - by VU2LRL (OM VenuGopal)

In the last post, we discussed what all Test Equipments are a "must have" in your shack as you construct ATS 1 (or any home brew project). 

Over here - are the inputs on Power Supply as we discussed in Test Equipment Section.

I would share my tips over a period of time on this website and I do hope you would find this information useful. Also I may add that if you have constructed ATS-1 and have a tip to share, or some advice to those who are going to homebrew this circuit this year, please do respond back to me, or post your feedback in the forum and spread the knowledge. 

Under the guidance of the team leader VU2IF. (Dr. Ashutosh Singh) The amplifier section right from the stage of 2n2222 to the final amplifier was done and optimized by VU2RTV (Om Venkataramanan) and the full modified version of ATS -1 was assembled and put on working by him . Some modifications were done in the original design after the publication of the article in SPARK Magazine after receiving the inputs from various hams.

Tip 2 - Power Supply
Instead of making the power supply given in the diagram make another power supply separately. With LM317 and IC723 regulators. the circuits for which are available in the ARRL handbook. If anybody requires the details the same will be provided in the down load section of this site. 28 volts regulated for the final stage, 20 volts regulated for the driver stage and 12 volts regulated for the Pre-driver stages. " REGULATED IS MORE IMPORTANT". This is very helpful in finishing and tuning the amplifier stages very easily and trouble free service for long time. Unregulated voltage in the final stages changes the biasing
parameters of the transistors and Mosfet and make their working unstable.

I am using a transformer 30-0-30 5 Amps common rectification and filtering and separate regulating circuits for 28, 20 and 12 volts. ( Page number 27-9 of ARRL handbook)

If you already have a stable power supply, or intend to purchase a commercial power supply, you may ignore this article and move over to the next one - that would share about IRF used in RF amplification.
