Radio Club Offers Amateur Testing

The Runestone Radio Club of Alexandria will conduct examinations for amateur radio licensing on Tuesday, November 18.

These exams are for all levels of amateur radio and will be held at Alexandria Technical College. Talk-in will be on the 146.790 repeater.

Registration will start at 5:30 p.m. and testing will begin immediately thereafter. Walk-ins are welcome.

There is a fee of $14 required to cover cost of materials.

Participants are asked to bring two forms of identification, one of which must contain a photo.

They should also have a completed 605 form. If you don’t have one, the club can furnish one. If you need assistance filling it out, the club members will help.

A tsunami watch was cancelled for South and Southeast Asia after an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck in the Indian Ocean, while a second earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.6, struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Japan Tuesday.

The earthquake in the Indian Ocean was centred about 262 km north of the Andaman Islands and took place at 1956 GMT, the US Geological Survey (USGS) in Denver, Colorado, reported. It struck in the early Tuesday (local time) and was 30 km below the earth's surface.
